REINHARD BONNKE BIOGRAPHY

Reinhard Bonnke was a German-American Pentecostal evangelist, renowned for his gospel outreaches in Africa. He has been an evangelist and missionary in Africa since 1967.

EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND

Reinhard Bonnke was born on the 19th of April 1940 in Königsberg, East Prussia, Germany, and went to be with the Lord on the 7th of December 2019. He was the son of an army logistics officer and the family was taken to Denmark during the evacuation of East Prussia. He spent quite a while in a rehabilitation center.

He gave his life to Christ at the age of nine after his mother spoke with him about the wrongdoing he did. Reinhard Bonnke knew what God has for him at the age of 10 and that was a mission in Africa. His father became a pastor after the war service.

He was inspired by the director of Bible College of Wales – Samuel Rees Howells while he was studying there. He pastored in Germany for seven years after graduation.

Reinhard Bonnke began his African ministry in 1967 in Lesotho. It was reported that over 79 million people got converted to Christianity as a result of his ministry.

DEATH

Reinhard Bonnke went to be to the Lord on the 7th of December 2019 and with his family present. He had femur surgery and let it known on his official Facebook page in November 2019 that he needed time to learn how to walk again.

AFRICAN MINISTRY

At the beginning of his ministry, he was faced with difficulties and he was frustrated at the progress he was making. According to him, he had a constant dream of seeing a picture of the map of Africa being shown and hearing the voice of God saying “Africa Shall Be Saved”. The dream makes him start large-scale evangelism more than the traditional way of doing things.

He founded the mission organization Christ For All Nations (CFAN) in 1974. The headquarters was in Johannesburg, South Africa before moving it to Frankfurt, Germany in 1986. It was done to stay away from the government at that time. The organization later had nine offices across five continents.

He began his ministry by holding tent meetings that housed large crowds. In the year 1984, he commissioned the construction of what was known to be the world’s biggest mobile structure according to the Christian Broadcasting Network. The tent had a capacity of 34,000 and it was destroyed in a wind storm before they had a meeting. They decided to have the meeting in an open-air and had 100,000 people in attendance far greater than the original capacity.

Reinhard Bonnke also held many outreaches in other African countries such as Kenya and Nigeria.

MARITAL AND RELATIONSHIP STATUS

He met Anni Suelze at a gospel music festival and admired her grace. They got married in 1964 and the couple had three children.

BOOKS BY HIM

He has written several books and some of them include:

LESSONS FROM HIS LIFE

One of the greatest lessons every believer should learn from his life is to have God do things His way. We should avail ourselves as vessels in His hand and see the wonders we will become. God bless you. Shalom!
