MAX LUCADO

Max Lucado Biography – Max Lucado is an American author and minister at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas. The church was formerly called Oak Hills Church of Christ.

EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND

He was born on January 11, 1955, to the family of Jack and Thelma Lucado. He was the youngest of the four children born to the family. Max’s father was an oil field worker and his mum was a nurse.

Max went to Abilene Christian University and finished with a BSc in Mass Communication. While he was an undergraduate, he paid his tuition fee by selling books house-to-house with the Southwestern Advantage entrepreneurial program.

His initial dream was to become a layer but changed his mind along the way because of a required Biblical course and a mission trip he took while at the University. He decided to become a missionary instead of a lawyer. Because of this change, he needed to get a degree in Bible and Biblical Studies and undergo two years of practical experience ministering to a church. He finished from Abilene Christian University with an MSc in Bible and Biblical Studies.

After his university graduation, he joined Central Church of Christ as an associate minister in Miami, Florida. After two years as an associate minister, he and his wife moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to become full-time missionaries. He only spent five years in Brazil before moving back to the US with his family in order to be closer to his mother.

OAK HILLS CHURCH

Max was hired as a minister at the Oak Hills Church of Christ in San Antonio, Texas in 1988. He stopped receiving a salary from the church in the year 1990 because he has become established as an author.

The church started using musical instruments in worship services and believed that baptism isn’t required for salvation during his tenure.

After almost 20 years of service as the senior minister in the church, he make the announcement of stepping down due to health issues in early 2007. Since then, he has been engaging in a limited role of writing and preaching alongside Randy Frazee a co-minister.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

In 2005, Max was named “The Best Preacher in America” by Reader’s Digest. He has been featured on many platforms like The Fox News Channel, NBC Nightly News, Larry King Live, and many more.
